The Day Has Arrived! (And then some...)

Hey bloggers,

My head and heart are very full on this Election Day...and I plan to be back later with something more to say.
- Jim, the Bishop

______________

Later that day (currently 19 comments)...

I need to be packing and running some errands (we leave for Korea early in the morning), but I can't stop watching the news and checking the blog, so I'll just go ahead and add some more now...

This was posted from JB a few days ago:

I was nineteen when voting in my first presidential election and have only missed one since. It is really cool that Judah votes this year too. Hope you never miss one for the next hundred plus years pal. I've mentioned this to several people this year and Bishop has written similarly to the thought as well but as a matter of prayer concerning our country, the first answer to a questioning prayer that I was sure of, came to me at nineteen. I was seriously wanting to vote for the right person, the one that God wanted to be our president. The answer that I recieved was that I should just vote for who I thought would be best and pray that I can continue doing that for as long as I live. God obviously answered the prayers of many people who had prayed for centuries when this country was established in such a way that the will of the people can be expressed with the selection of its leaders without coercion or reprisal for their choice. Judah it is my prayer that you and I both will continue to enjoy the favor of God to cast our votes for a very long time. I join all others in prayer for the nation and its leaders in this great time that we live in.

JB

To which I replied:

JB, On Thursday of last week, Jared took the time to come sit with me for several hours while I was in the hospital, even though he was leaving for a European tour that evening. He seemed genuinely worried about me (which is out of character for him), and it served to create a nice little father/son memory...On Tuesday of this week I took my dad to have caract surgery, and spent a good part of the day with him. He wanted to have lunch after the surgery, even though he was bandaged, and had on huge dark glasses, and was still a little groggy from the Valium they gave him. But I could tell that he was/is excited about our Korea trip and wanted to talk about it...and the conversations we had that day served to create another nice little father/son memory...But on Monday of this week, Judah came out to Covington (I went with him to get the oil in his truck changed and to get his tires rotated) but his real purpose in coming out here was for us to vote together. We stood in a very long line and talked about what it means to be an American, and about the future of this country, and what a privelege it is to be able to vote...and the genuine excitement that he showed about the whole process created a memory I'll never forget. I taught him how to swim. I taught him how to drive a car. But seeing him vote for the first time...well, that was very special...

Actually, I taught Jared how to swim, now that I think of it...Judah we took to the YMCA*...Speaking of Jared, I should say that he also voted while he was out here. I didn't even know he could vote in Newton County, but his drivers license has our address, and he called them to make sure that he could do it. My dad went with him (even though mom and dad voted week before last)...And also, Debye drove up to get Sofia and bring her down for the weekend, so that Christina can go vote (the lines in Fayeteville are super long, and she doesn't have anyone to keep the baby)...point being, we all voted (Debye went to do it day before yesterday)...but, again, experiencing Judah's first time was special because it's the first time one of my kids has turned 18 in an election year...

*Debye seems to remember it differently, and tells me that, even though I did take Judah to a swimming class at the Y, he ultimately just taught himself to swim.

Anyway, I'm very proud of the fact that all of my family has voted in this election (including mom and dad and Deb's mom and dad)...that is, everyone except Jonah...he's 15...but he's very interested in, and informed about the process...and he's opinionated about it. I'm just happy that my kids care about it.

God bless America!

A scriptural prayer for our nation and all nations. Pray and believe as you read for it is so.

The leaders of the nations are coming to light. We make supplication, prayer, intercession, and give thanks for ALL the people and the leaders of nations, that I might live a peaceable life in all godliness and honesty. Let out leaders be just and let them rule by the awe of the Lord. Let the leaders of the world fall down before the Lord, and let the nations serve Him. Let the poor and needy people of the nations be delivered. Let the Lord's dominion be established in the nations, and let His enemies lick the dust. Turn the leaders hearts to awe you. Let the Lord rule over the nations and let them be glad and rejoice. Let us sing a new song, bless His name, and show forth salvation from day to day. Let the people of the nations tremble at the presence of the Lord. We make a joyful noise to You and serve You with gladness. World leaders hear the words of Your mouth. Wickedness is rooted out of the land. The wicked are cut down and withered as the green herb. All the people of the nations turn and worship Him. The nations are the Lord's and the fullness thereof, and all they that dwell therein! The idolaters are confounded, all the gods worship the Lord. The nations praise the Lord for His merciful kindness and truth! Save the nations, O Lord, and send prosperity. All nations will submit to the rule and reign of Christ. They will bring wealth into the kingdom. They will show forth the praises of God. Those who are deaf are hearing the words of the book, and the blind are seeing out of obscurity. Jesus rules the nations with righteousness and judgment. They are coming to Zion to be taught, and learning no more of war. We are seeking the Lord and entering His rest. The parched places are becoming pools, and every thirsty part a spring of water. The glory of the Lord is revealed in the nations and all inhabitants will see it. I ask the Lord to do a new thing in the nations by giving water in the wilderness and streams in the desert. Peace comes in like a river. The nations are sprinkled with the blood of Jesus. The children are taught of the Lord. Nations are seeking and finding the Lord. The nations are filled with priests and Levites who worship the Lord. Let the nations come and worship the Lord. Let the people build houses and inhabit them. Let the people plant vineyards and eat the fruit of them. Let the people enjoy the works of their hands. Let the enemies of the lands be reconciled. Let all nations be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the Lord. The nations are saved and walk in the light of Zion. God is merciful and blesses us and causes his face to shine upon us. His way is made know to us, his saving health is unto us the nations. They look to the Lord and are saved. Every covenant with death in hell is broken over the nations. They look to the Lord and are saved. Every veil spread out over them is destroyed. The Lord makes bare His holy arm , and the nations see His salvation. The nations are the Lord's inheritance and He possesses them. The kingdom is the Lord's, and He is the governor of all nations. The people who walk in darkness see the light. Your light shines upon those in the shadow of darkness. Your government and peace is continually increasing in the nations. Let those nations who were not your people be called children of the living God. Righteousness, peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost increase in the nations. Righteousness comes and we are exalted. His Spirit is poured out in the nations and our sons and daughters prophecy. We confess you, Lord, among the people and sing unto your name. You glory is declared and your wonders are in us. You open the door of utterance to the nations that your people would hear Your word. The families of all people are blessed through Christ. The healing waters flow into the nations.

Chapter 4 continued...

But now I see that you are discouraged and are saying to yourself: "What am I to do? If all he says is true, how shall I justify my past? I am this age and until this moment I have scarcely noticed time at all. What is worse, I could not repair the past even if I wanted to, for according to his teaching such a task is impossible to me by nature even with the help of ordinary grace. Besides I know very well that in the future, either through frailty or laziness, I will probably not be any more attentive to the present moment than I have been in the past. I am completely discouraged. Please help me for the love of Jesus."
Well have you said "for the love of Jesus." For it is in his love that you will find help. In love all things are shared and so if you love Jesus, everything of his is yours. As God he is the creator and dispenser of time; as man he consciously mastered time; as God and man he is the rightful judge of men and their use of time. Bind yourself to Jesus, therefore, in faith and love, so that belonging to him you may share all he has and enter the fellowship of those who love him. This is how you enter the communion of the blessed: St.Mary, who was full of grace at every moment; the angels, who are unable to waste time; and all the blessed in heaven and on earth, who through the grace of Jesus employ every moment in love. See, here is your strength. Understand what I'm saying and be heartened. But remember, I warn you of one thing above all. No one can claim true fellowship with Jesus, his Mother, the angels, and the saints, unless they do all in their power with the help of grace to be mindful of time. For you must do your share no matter how however slight to strengthen the fellowship as it strengthens you.
And so do not neglect his contemplative work. Try also to appreciate its wonderful effects on your own spirit. When it is genuine it is simply a spontaneous desire springing suddenly toward God like spark from fire. It is amazing how many loving desires arise from the spirit of a person who is accustomed to this work. And yet, perhaps only one of these will be completely free from attachment to some created thing. Or again, no sooner has man turned toward God in love when through human frailty he finds himself distracted by remembrance of some created thing or some daily care. But no matter. No harm is done; for such a person quickly returns to deep recollection.

Bishop,

You said from last night comment, you did not know what it means for Obama grandmother to die on the eve of the election. It can only means that she has already see her grandson becomes the president of United States of America. Like MLK has said on his speech to people that he has see the promise land. And then, he died. Well, Bishop I believed God has allowed her to seeing her Grandson becomes the first Black African American President in White House.

Like I told everyone this election is not about Barak Obama or John McCain, it is more spiritual than we think. It does not have that much really to do with them, its God working on His own to bring America where America needs to be. Again let us go the throne of Grace humbly and boldly before the Lord to pray for guidance, wisdom, understanding, patience, discernment, and knowledge for our next President of America.

My prayer on this election day is simply that all elected officials (and the rest of us as well) are as obedient to the Holy Spirit as Jim, the Bishop is. No agenda - no pre-conceived notions of how it's supposed to BE - just surrendering it all.

My greatest joy comes through watching God just being God as He sees fit.

Sunday's service was just that!

I noticed Larry as he was "dragged" to the alter to pray for someone and I recognized that it was a supernatural thing. I noticed many others as they surrendered to the same Spirit and ministered God's will.

I "see" that CITN's covenant people are constantly obedient to Holy Ghost promptings and this clearly flows down from the top. It is through this obedience that we are being set apart for something that has never been done before.

A "shift" is occuring and we are forerunners of this "new age" - just as SOZ blogged a few days ago - I also feel that very strongly in the Spirit realm where all truth is revealed.

Enjoy today and see the wondrous works of God as our perceived chaos is recognized more and more as God's divine order.

I've never missed an opportunity to vote since the first time I became eligible to vote, but at the same time I've never been more excited to go down to the polling place and cast my ballot.

Do you plan to vote today? I certainly hope so. You have the privilege of being a conscious participant in the outcome of probably the most significant election in recent, if not all of, history. America, I believe, is entering Her next stage of evolution. Who ever enters the highest office in the land will have a mountain of seemingly unreachable heights to face. That is why it is of utmost importance that you SUPPORT him; whether your candidate of choice or not.
I believe America is trying to emerge as a nation of uniqueness. A land of unity through her diversity. An example to the world that we can live in peace and harmony regardless of ethnicity, orientation, religious belief, political bent, or outside threat. A true "city set on a hill". A light to the rest of the world. As we as a nation evolve, my prayer is we move out of the dividing worldviews of polarization and partisanship, to collaboration and progress. Anon @ 4:23, you were right when you said this election has a very spiritual significance but I don't think it's about bringing America "back to God" or reinforcing our "Christian values"; many of our founding fathers were Deists anyway. It's more about taking the country in a new direction. To it's true spiritual destiny as a leader to the rest of the world. This President will be the harbinger of change(no innuendo intended here since both candidates are wanting to move from our present condition); a prelude of sorts to what I believe an even more significant election coming in 2012.
There's allot at stake. Your input and insights are needed. Your open-mindedness is necessary. YOUR VOTE COUNTS!!
Please participate. Allow your voice to be heard by casting your ballot for the candidate you believe has the vision and ability to take this great Nation to her next stage of evolution.
This is the last day you have to impact this lifetime!

Peace to you and God Bless America,
PM

It is a privilege and honor to live in the nation that we do. To have the freedom to go vote for who we want, without pressure, coercion and corruption at the ballot box.

At 10:00 last night I drove by a group of people on a street corner along Scenic Hwy. in Gwinnett, waving their signs for their preferred candidate. The enthusiasm was contagious just seeing them! Every vote does count. Do your duty and get the satisfaction that you participated in one of the most historical elections ever. The process begins at the local level, so choose wisely and GO VOTE!

Twila Paris - God Is In Control

This is no time for fear
This is a time for faith and determination
Don't lose the vision here
Carried away by emotion
Hold on to all that you hide in your heart
There is one thing that has always been true
It holds the world together

God is in control
We believe that His children will not be forsaken
God is in control
We will choose to remember and never be shaken
There is no power above or beside Him, we know
God is in control, oh God is in control

History marches on
There is a bottom line drawn across the ages
Culture can make its plan
Oh, but the line never changes
No matter how the deception may fly
There is one thing that has always been true
It will be true forever

He has never let you down
Why start to worry now?
He is still the Lord of all we see
And He is still the loving Father
Watching over you and me

watching over you...watching over me..
watching over every things..
watching over you..watching over me..
every little sparrow..every little things...

Indeed proud to be an American. Just got back from the polls, one good thing about living in the sticks is there are NO lines! In and out 6 minutes tops. I agree with all of you encouraging people to vote. Thank God that we get that opportunity and priviledge. Every vote does count, it is not a time to fear for this great Nation. It is a time of refreshing and oneness. That is the ultimate outcome if we can all learn to be one with each other here in our own land! After such a time of tension I think we are all ready for a little peace! But for today the air is electric-so ya'll have a shockingly great day!

I have such excitement in my heart today for the election....it really is "A Holy Day"...anointed, if you will to usher in "The New Beginning" we are all experiencing! No matter what the outcome, History is being made! Change will take place! And anything is possible!!!!

I have a sense that it is less about the all of the different platforms and so much more about the next generation! I have never seen so many young people voting, asking questions, having opinions and just generally being involved in the election process. I am hearing the word "Awaken"....I feel the young adults of America have been Awakened. That is it....

God is a generational God/Father....How exciting!

Peace...God is in control....I love my honey's version best too, anon. 10:21.....

I am wearing my "I Voted" sticker on my shirt. I went to the polls before going to work this morning and had to wait about 30 minutes to vote.
It was so amazing how there were people complaining about having to wait so long and how the election officials should have prepared better and had more voting machines.
While they were complaining I was thinking how wonderful it was that we actually had to wait in line to vote rather than just waltz right in and vote and leave. Thank God I had to wait! That is the way it should be at every election.
Sometimes I just want to slap the hell out of some people.
Trisha came home last night so that she could get up early and vote before she had to leave to go back to school. She texted me later and said that she had just voted for change.
She is 22 and I have never seen her so excited about voting although she hasn't voted many times due to her age. My son could not make it home to vote due to school but called the other day and said that he had mailed in his absentee ballot.
Is this a great country or what!?

I am very excited about the election today, I took Jacob, my youngest son with me to vote (he is 12) and he is very interested in the whole process, both my boys took part in a mock election at their school today and they were very jazzed about it. Senator Obama won with a landslide victory at the school and you could hear all of the whooping and yelling when the results came over the intercom. I am overjoyed to see the interest and excitement of the students. They have taped and watched the debates and held round table discussions among themselves throughout this entire process. I just heard something incredibly wrong on CNN.
They had an entire segment about why we vote on the first Tuesday of November.
I emailed them and explained to them that we do not necessarily vote on the first Tuesday of November although it happens that way this year.
We ALWAYS vote on the first Tuesday after the first Monday of November.
So it could conceivably be the second Tuesday of November.

Son of Zadok said...

Wonderbeautimous. I like that Linda.

Donald, I heard we vote on a Tuesdays because Sunday was a holy day, then people would often times have to travel on Mondays to reach the polling places on Tuesday. Then they would travel back on Wednesdays. Tell that to the people standing in line!

It is so great for me to be able to vote because my mom marched for it and it was so many days that I missed her as she was in jail. You see my mom never missed a chance to march with Dr. King in our hometown of Birmingham, AL. and as it would be she would end up in jail with him. She wanted her children and grandchildren to have it better than she did. As I press those buttons I can't help but remember the first time my mother voted and how long she stood in the line. As she stood there someone came by and said the person that she was voting for had lost but she would not move she waited just so she could cast her vote. Because she walked I know I can stand in a line to vote although I voted early and had no line I would have stood if I needed too. I know God will give us what we need so I did my part and I leave the rest to him and I'm happy that it is over.

Donald I apologize for being a "just waltzed right in to vote." I didn't mean to waltz right in, I would've gladly waited. Our new community is pretty rural and it was actually pretty cool. Still loved the whole experience and felt like I was a part of something great and bigger than me!

We cool tracy, I twarnt aiming that at you personally.
I wouldn't have protested if I could have waltzed right in and voted myself, it's just that the mere fact that I did have to wait was gratifying in the sense that the American spirit seems to be stronger this year than I've ever seen it before and I just felt that people should all look at it from my perspective.
To be honest with you, I went early this morning so that I wouldn't have to wait and ended up having to do it anyway.
So don't worry about that you waltzing votin' rascal you!

SOZ, they actually did cover that aspect of the reason for voting on Tuesday (Sunday being a holy day). They just messed up about the first Tuesday part.

Every time I come on the blog, I always feel better. You can call me a bad American, but today I was feeling underwhelmed and on overload on the significance of the election, and just a little "over it" if that makes sense. I anticipated long lines at the polls, arguments amongst my students (the students were reminded to support their candidates of choice with respect, and if they couldn't they'd go home) and was just in an "Oh let's just get this over with" mode. But, after work (Mr. Sauls let the teachers who hadn't voted yet leave while the kids were sent to the gym to be watched) I got in, there was NO line, and I was reminded how cool this whole process was. I mean, there are countries that start wars over what we have been able to do peacefully for at least a century, I'm able to do something my grandmother couldn't do when she was my age, and to potentially make history at the same time, that's even better.
