"Nothing in life is to be feared. It is only to be understood." - Marie Currie

Don't let the giant standing b4 u intimidate u 2day...remember u already killed a bear & a lion...this won't b any different...have the courage 2 take care of business ur way...some1 else's ill-fitting armor is only going 2 weigh u down...who cares if they laugh @ ur 5 smooth stones?...just do it...when Goliath starts threatening u, don't back down...run 2ward him & finish him off...let the weak say 'I am strong'...

If we don't know how or what to pray, it doesn't matter. He does our praying in and for us, making prayer out of our wordless sighs, our aching groans. He knows us far better than we know ourselves, knows our pregnant condition, and keeps us present before God. That's why we can be so sure that every detail in our lives of love for God is worked into something good. (Romans 8:26-28, The Message)

Written n Chinese, the word "crisis" is composed of 2 characters - 1 represents danger & the other represents opportunity. The cross is both the end & beginning of something, & Jesus said we all have 2 take up our own...if ur now n the heart of the earth (grave/belly of the fish), u will get out n 3 days ("Thou wilt not leave my soul in hell [Sheol]" is better translated "I know u will not leave me n the grave")...

Way cool memories, Bishop...looking forward to Izumi/Joy's childhood bliss memory-connections...well everyone's really...but we all know she's the fun-connections person...

Gotta run...but I'll be back...

Fun connections person? Wha?!! Uh.. thanks, Avatar. Evening fellow bloggers!

Hmm... childhood bliss memory connections... what can I add that hasn't been included already?

Honeysuckle grew on our back yard fence. (dodging the bumblebees to pick flowers!)

Caught minnows in a nearby creek with discarded window screens. (pretended we were in Africa!)

Except for the school year, seems like we didn't own a pair of shoes. Cold clover under our dirty, summer feet. What could be better?

Drive-in movies: Daddy's station wagon stuffed with kids, pillows, home-made popcorn. (for the love of everything holy, what was up with the faulty speakers?!)

Remember the swing sets in front of the movie screens? Bats flitted around at dusk, right before the feature. Wait... you asked for bliss...

Apple cinnamon cake. On certain paydays, Daddy would send us to a small grocery store to pick up these treats. I always loved the sounds in that place. (electrical songs of the refrigerators & the rotisserie at the back of the store)

Penny candy. Always felt so rich when we could get a bag for a quarter. We scoured our neighborhood for empty soda bottles to redeem for candy money.

Tag...your turn.

Cigarette smoke and talcum powder at the small town barber shop in the town where I was raised. I know, it sounds weird, but when I smell something that reminds me of that smell, I am carried back in time.

Here's a real weird one. When I'm out riding my motorcycle and ride past a pasture and smell cow manure it reminds me of my childhood because I was raised on a farm.
When a propane powered forklift goes past me at work it reminds me of my grandfather because he had a tractor that ran on natural gas and the smell is similar to how his tractor smelled when it was running.

Aqua Velva & Vitalis. Sometimes, I sneak open those bottles in grocery stores to get a smell of Daddy. Ivory Soap reminds me of Momma.

There's a way that asphalt smells when it first gets wet...like when it begins to drizzle on a blacktop road in the summertime...that totally reminds me of Six Flags when I was a kid for some reason...I love it...

The combined scents of cotton candy, popcorn & straw reminds of carnivals.

Getting so sunburned at the beach that the sheets hurt....

Building forts in the woods behind our house...

Running through a sprinkler and thinking it was the best thing ever!

Camping in the mountains and swimming in the creeks...they were always soooo cold, but you had to do it!

My parents always saying if we owned a school but it wouldnt be enough room for me and my brothers...

Going to the Hostess Bakery store and getting the "surprise bag" with all kind of Lil' Debbie snacks...

Going to Dairy Queen after winning a ballgame...

You can see Dollar stores just about everywhere, now. But, "back in the day", we had 5&10 stores.

Magical places for kids. Sling shots, kaleidoscopes, marbles, sidewalk chalk, magnifying glasses, binoculars, water guns, water globes - you'd find them there.

For girls: embroidered handkerchiefs, dolls, plastic make-up sets, purses, and hula hoops.

I used to plant myself beside the revolving post card stand, reading and wondering if giant Jackalopes really existed.

Don't know if it was only during the holidays, or an everyday thing. But, Winn's had little bells at the top of the door. Every time it was opened/closed, the sound alerted activity.

No school project was too grand that Winn's couldn't supply poster boards, crayons, glue, glitter, staples, marking pens, and more.

Nice memory.

Mom cooking up sides to go with the stuff dad was grilling outside. Loved the smell of the grill.

My puppy who was always starved for attention trying to lick my face.
or even better sneaking off with my burrito from Del Taco. Wish we still had Del Taco's around.

Skipping stones across the lake.

Finding change in the couch to buy ice cream from the ice cream truck.

Having the neighbor friends come over as I read them Bible stories.
Mom bringing us cookies and kool-aid for a treat.

Playing bandana war in the woods behind our house.

Even better having a water war game.

The smell of clothes after they've been drying outside on the line all day. The fun in racing to pluck them off before it rained.

I tried coming back two days ago...but post got lost on the BBerry. Thought maybe it was best to leave it at that...but the posts continue, so I guess I'll go here...

The memories I'm posting have been a challenge for me to recall...and I've been surprised by the challenge AND at the number of "negative" memories that most easily come to the surface...what's up with that?
Whatever, it's been good to "work" at finding these...

Receiving an Indian Head penny in change at the country store near my grandparents house. I still have the collection it started.

Fireflies at dusk...catching them, not catching them...they were cool.

Tying strings to the legs of june bugs...and watching them fly on the string.

Laying on the grass during the day looking for shapes in the clouds...at night, watching for shooting stars...

Hide and seek...at night...always wonderfully "scarry" to find someone...

Izumi/Joy...swingsets at the drive-in...in your pj's! oh yes...

Seeing the "end" of the rain on the street...one part pouring...two feet away, completely dry...

Breaking apart our roller skates and nailing them to boards.

Rolling down grassy hills...we could never go straight, but it was always fun...

Searching for the flattened pennies we'd put on the railroad track before the twice-a-day train passed by...

Waiting...Christmas Eve...'cos we totally knew it was gonna be good!

God morning beloved Universe!

Yes, Avatar. Having the same challenges. (unlocking only the blissful ones) I begged one of my sisters not to share this. Or, at least word it delicately. (now, I'm laughing to myself about her reaction when she finds this)

Daddy used to buy bags of confections called Old Fashioned chocolate drops. Big treat. Extremely rich, extremely sweet.

We (six kids) were doled a piece. My sister & I asked for another. He was generous. (more often mischievous) He allowed it. So, we asked again, and were surprised when he nodded consent.

Big mistake.

Nowadays, when one or the other's feeling yucky, we goad each other with that memory & threaten to send a bag.

Making whistles out of strips of folded grass. Old box on a twig tied to string to catch a lazy hungry and curious sparrow. Sword fights with cattails. Sandlot baseball bare handed and three foot 2x4 as a bat. Times when the lack of real equipment didn't faze the fun. Running from the bantie chickens after gathering eggs. Mulberries fresh from the trees... how simple yet so enjoyable.

Best memory Just before my dad retired from the army he was sent to Germany. He sent me a care package which had gummie bears. They had not been made or even sold in the US. It was a very special thing. I really love the gummie bears imported from Germany but finding them here is very rare. A childhood memory that lives in my heart.

Anonymous 5:16 @ 2:47 PM: Loved your recollections!
