Hey bloggers,
Thanks for your response to the article about intercession. It seems to me that every time I talk about prayer here on the blog, I get a lot of really exceptional feedback on the subject, and I’m very glad that BLOGINTHENOW, while being decidedly unconventional in its approach to theological and spiritual matters, is consistently so prayer-friendly. Today’s entry from AYITN is about EXPECTANCY, which is certainly an important aspect of prayer, and in light of that, I want to encourage all who are a part of this blog community to maintain an attitude of expectancy today that keeps faith and vision at a high level. Keep looking forward, regardless of any recently experienced disappointments, and believe in the probable occurrence or appearance of something good coming in to your world today, because something good is due for you. Here's some more about prayer...

Father, Mother, God,
Thank you for your presence during the hard and mean days.
For then we have you to lean upon. Thank you for your presence during the bright and sunny days, for then we can share that which we have with those who have less. And thank you for your presence during the Holy Days, for then we are able to celebrate you and our families and our friends. For those who have no voice, we ask you to speak. For those who feel unworthy, we ask you to pour your love out in waterfalls of tenderness. For those who live in pain,we ask you to bathe them in the river of your healing. For those who are lonely, we ask you to keep them company.
For those who are depressed, we ask you to shower upon them the light of hope. Dear Creator, You, the borderless sea of substance, we ask you to give to all the
world that which we need most—Peace.

Prayer for the National and Local Election (from Prayers That Avail Much)
Father, in Jesus' name, I give thanks for the United States and its government. I hold up in prayer before You those people who are seeking a position of authority in political office. I pray that the Spirit of the Lord rests upon them.
I believe that skillful and godly wisdom has entered into the heart of everyone whom you have appointed to lead us and that knowledge is pleasant to them. Discretion watches over them; understanding keeps them and delivers them from the way of evil and from evil men.
Father, I ask that You surround everyone in authority with men and women who are attentive to godly counsel and do that which is right in Your sight. We pray that our leaders will be people of integrity who are obedient concerning us that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty. I pray that only the upright shall be elected to govern over us...that only a person who is blameless and complete in Your sight, Father, shall obtain these positions of leadership. In the name of Jesus we pull down the wicked from this election and the treacherous shall be rooted out of it. I also pray that the media who proclaims any news about this election, will clearly speak and write truth that prevails, and their influence will be for good and not evil.
Your Word declares that blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord (Ps. 33:12). I receive Your blessing, Father, for my country. You are our refuge and stronghold in times of trouble (high cost, destitution, depression and desperation). So I declare with my mouth that Your people shall dwell safely in this land, and we prosper abundantly. We are more than conquerors through Christ Jesus!
It is written in Your Word that the heart of the king is in the hand of the Lord, and you turn it whichever way You desire. I believe the hearts of our leaders are in Your hand and that their decisions are divinely directed by You, Lord.
I give thanks unto You that the good news of the gospel is proclaimed and published in our land. The Word of the Lord prevails and grows mightily in the hearts and lives of the people. I give thanks for this land and the leaders You will give to us, in Jesus' name.
Jesus is Lord over the United States of America!

Without going into any detail, if you had to make a list of the top 5 people who most need our prayers today, who would be on that list?
17 comments:
I am in agreement with all prayers, and share wholeheartedly in the expectancy of good things.
I particularly pray for these leaders with the ambition for peace, tolerance, reconciliation and humanity:
1. The next U.S. President
2. Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert and Defense Minister Ehud Barak
3. President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad (Iran)
4. President Hu Jintao (China)
5. Bishop Jim Earl Swilley
Rest easy,
mayam
My list starts with Bishop and P Debye as the one they are for this ministry and the world that is reached through it.
Number two is the incoming President who ever they may be.
Number three is who ever the most influential leader over the nation of Islam is.
Number four is that person that no one will ever know that will do and say the right thing at the right time to start the energy wave our world needs to continue forward.
Number five is myself.
Holy Spirit keep us all attentive to accomplish the perfect will of God and our Christ, Amen.
JB
I thought I had my five people all figured out then I thought about that lady I read about in the newspaper who lost everything in a housefire and that little kid in China who lost his entire family in an earthquake and that man in Myanmar who had to bury his wife and kids and on and on and on.
Whew, thank God that we aren’t restricted on how many people we can pray for because everybody is in need of prayer just as much as the next person.
I am in agreement with you all. Hanging on to the vision of this ministry and the vision for my family.
My prayers go as follows
1) The children waiting for hope
2) My Bish and his family
3) The United Nations
4) US government
5) My family
I expect great things today and for the fervant prayers of Gods people to manifest in a mighty way.
Donald I so agree with you. It would be horrible if we had to limit who we could pray for. I wonder though if we were limited to 5 people who would we honestly say we would pray for? Thank God we don't have to ask that question!!!!
Anyone find it ironic that Mr. Obama addressed the AIPAC yesterday? I mean seriously, flow or what? Did anyone hear what he said?!?!? I am coping the headline that was on CSPAN.com this morning.
Sen. Barack Obama (D-IL) spoke at the American Israel Public Affairs Committee 2008 Policy Conference. He discusses the relationship between the U.S., Israel, and the challenges of the Middle East.
Yes, I know that all presenditial candidates do this but there was something annointed about the things he said that was so IN THE FLOW of what we have been talking about now with Bish for a couple of weeks. WOW! it was if Obama is an Anonymous blogger. LOL

Hello Y'ALL,
Unless the question changed some time during the day I have totally been contemplating the wrong question. Durn.
Often I'm not aware of who I'm praying for. Ever since I heard about the possibility of it, I've been challenged by the unceasing prayer thing. I sense it sometimes, other times not. Sometimes I just sense a single word or a name, other times more like what Donald said.
Bishop, do you remember asking us once to listen for a name in our minds and then pray for the person? Might be someone we know or might not. Mine was not. I tucked the name away so I'd find it every once in a while.
Anyway, so when I asked who's in the queue today, these came to mind:
1. anyone who doesn't have someone praying for them
2. the body of Christ at CITN
3. Bo Flanders
4. me
5. my kids
Embarassingly, there are some glaring omissions, but I don't want to lie--these are what rolled off first, for today.
I'm in the "glad there's no limitation" camp and by faith trusting that the "real live" prayers and the groaning I sense throughout the day is being translated by Holy Spirit to cover what and who needs prayers.
Provocative question, Bishop. Thanks.
Are you wanting to change anything Holy Spirit? I'm listening.
K- I am going with Avatar and just going with who comes to mind: Bishop you and your family of course..because it is all parallel,

I think I have passed 5 ....anyway....Robyn Darby- don't know why, just take it. C Longino for softball field prayers that were answered, everyone who has cancelled a debt for us or just showed us uncommon favor AND Definately peace globally and someone with big enough kahunas to tell the world leaders to stop the silliness and AGREE on PEACE the rest will fall into place...love to all and g night
