Brain Washed!

Hey bloggers,

Today's entry (11/17) for A Year In The Now is entitled BRAIN-WASHED, and it's one of my favorites.

Now, to "brain-wash" someone, according to the dictionary, is to subject that person to a process by which ideas are implanted in the mind. It is a means of indoctrination that goes on all the time, on mutltiple levels...through the media, the news, Madison Avenue, pop culture, and certianly throught religion...and it is generally and universally considered a negative term.

But I used it for today's devotional reading in the positive sense...in the sense that Jesus used when He said "Now are you clean through the word that I have spoken to you" (John 15:3), and in the sense in which Paul wrote the passage below to the Romans. As I talked about yesterday in my sermon, there are many things in our brains...in our minds...in our perceptions...that need to be "washed out" through the power of the truth.

I was planning on writing about this for today, and as I was putting this post together last night, the following comment appeared on the blog:

Bishop,

I am actually amazed at how the Holy Spirit is so moving and changing my life. I am noticing how He, through you, is renewing how I am looking at things that I so thought were set in stone, from the many years of believing what I had been taught. If it were that I felt I was being pushed to change my thinking, I would go into defense mode and harden my heart. The thing is I'm not being pushed or pulled, I'm being wooed by the Holy Spirit, and I am convinced that it is Him. I have done so many things in haste in my life, but with this I have decided to just let it happen. I've learned in my years, that if something is supposed to happen, it will. I know that right now I'm going through a peeling process, and in the end I will be oh so amazed with the results of His working in me. Just speaking right from my heart.

BRAIN-WASHED!

So here’s what I want you to do, God helping you: Take your everyday, ordinary life — your sleeping, eating, going-to-work, and walking-around life—and place it before God as an offering. Embracing what God does for you is the best thing you can do for Him. Don’t become so well-adjusted to your culture that you fit into it without even thinking. Instead, fix your attention on God. You’ll be changed from the inside out. Readily recognize what he wants from you, and quickly respond to it. Unlike the culture around you, always dragging you down to its level of immaturity, God brings the best out of you, develops well-formed maturity in you.
(Romans 12:1, 2 The Message)

Today I will live in the now! I will live in the now because I am being transformed by the renewing of my mind as it is being washed by the water of the Word! I am abandoning conformity to this world system and age, refusing to be fashioned and adapted to its external and superficial customs. My entire mind is being renewed for transformation—new ideals, new attitude. I am being transformed from VICTIM TO VICTOR because God is living big in me—bigger than my genetics—bigger than my family history—bigger than my dysfunctional circumstances. If God is for me, who can be against me!

Today I will be transformed from CAPTIVE TO CONQUEROR by the renewing of my mind! The Lord is turning my captivity as I exercise my authority and dominion in Him!

Today I will experience a transformation from TRAGEDY TO TRIUMPH by the renewing of my mind! All things are working together for my good!

Today I will embrace a transformation from MEDIOCRITY TO MAGNIFICENCE by the renewing of my mind! God has called me to greatness and I have accepted the call!

Today I will discipline myself (my words, my attitude) for transformation from being a WHINER TO A WINNER! Life is in the power of my tongue!

Today I will be renewed and reinvigorated to be transformed from a state of EXHAUSTION TO EXHILARATION! My youth is being renewed like the eagle’s!

Today I will be transformed from a paradigm of REPRESSION TO a perspective of RIGHTEOUSNESS! His nature in me has set me free from the law of sin and death. I will walk in a new mindset today, and today I will live in the now!

Father, wash my mind with Your Word today. In Jesus’ name amen.

Her Majesty and I were talking earlier tonight about how fortunate we are to have two kids that are so positive about their futures. They have never envisioned themselves as just being another face in the crowd but as being a leader in whatever field they choose to embark upon.

I told her that the first thing that I told both of them only seconds after they were born was, "You can be anything you want to be."

Lynn and I were both taught all our lives that since we were raised in a certain social bracket (blue collar, work 'til you die) that we shouldn't really expect any better. You know, "The rich get richer and the poor get poorer" mentality. I've actually been told that by my parents.

Furtunately we were both able to snap out of that and instilled in both of our kids that there was no ceiling to prevent them from reaching their goals.

Yes sir, brainwashing can be a very positive thing.

Excellent!

Washed by the water of the Word.

How does God teach us? By His Word.
How does God heal us? By His Word.
How does God encourage us? By His Word.
How does God chastise us? By His Word.

Through the Word have all things been created and all things subsist.

In the beginning was the Word.
In the end is the Word.

God in us, revealed in us, the Word made flesh, He dwells among us, we dwell amongst each other and Word begets Word.

Iron sharpens iron.

Strength begets strength.

We overcome by the Blood of the Lamb and the Word of our testimony.

The Word of our testimony IS Christ.

Logos
Rhema

From God, spoken back to God, spoken to the Universe, resounding, reverberating, reconnecting, resurrecting, recounting, restructuring, retroactive, timeless, tempered, tough and tested...the Word of God NEVER FAILS!

Blessings & strength,

Larry

I realize we are all being brain washed to some extent. So we should be careful who we allow to run the washing machine.

We should also be careful what we put in the washer at the same time. Some things do not need to be washed with other things. These should be washed by themselves in a different way.

If we throw everything into the washer at the same time none of it will come out right.

for instance, religion does not need to be washed in the same way that say business has to be washed; or politics does not need to be washed the same way as the entertainment industry etc.

while some things can stand and need a strong detergent and Hot water; others need a cooler more gentle cycle to achieve the best results.

Peace,
Dennis

Good Morning Bishop.
I have truly missed my daily bread...and speaking of brain washing, I spent most of Saturday with the quilters of Gees Bend - women of wisdom from late sixties through 91 years of age, living on an unspoiled, raw stretch of land almost completely buffered from neighboring communities by the Alabama River, unfettered by the attention received over the past 4-5 years, and prone to bursts of spontaneous a-cappella praise singing as they stitch. There is so much stability, sanity and humility in their shared simple philosophies of life, the most important being staying focused on God. When I asked Nettie Young - 91 - what the secret to her long life was she commented, "It's no secret - God has not called me home yet. There is obviously still work for me to do with Him on this side. I was 13 when I met Him for myself, and He has been my best friend every since. I am not just talking. He has been in charge of my life every since. He has been my preoccupation, and I am still getting to know Him."

From that point on I was a listener only.

Love to All,
Rest easy,
mayam

How to Create a Vision for Your Life
By Joe Rubino in Visions on November 15th, 2008

Take an 8-ounce glass filled with coffee. This represents your low self-esteem. It is murky, dark and does not transmit light. Now take a large pitcher of crystal clear water. This represents your new empowering vision. Pour the water from the pitcher into the glass. The water from the pitcher flows into the glass, causing the glass to overflow. The first few ounces have little obvious effect on the color of the liquid in the glass. However, as you add more pure water, the content of the glass gets lighter and lighter.

By the time you have poured the entire pitcher out into the glass, you will notice all discolored liquid is gone and only pure, translucent water remains. The same holds true with regard to your mind. As you replace cynical, self-defeating thoughts that crush your self-esteem with a positive, empowering vision that feeds your magnificence, the power of the new thoughts eventually replace the old. This elevates your esteem and dilutes the thoughts that previously consumed your attention. The power in realizing this transformation comes from the magnitude of new positive energy that far surpasses the old negative force.

To mold your new life vision, close your eyes and imagine that a genie has just appeared before you. This genie has offered to grant your every wish, provided you have the courage to envision it, believe it will happen and pursue it. In order to create this vision, you need to temporarily suspend any self-defeating thoughts that you will only have in your life what you have always had.

The past does not need to be a harbinger of the future. Keep in mind that we will be developing a specific plan of action to address the question, “What exactly will it take to manifest this vision?” So, create your dream vision with the expectation that we will be designing a plan to bring each aspect of it into reality.

Let’s start by revisiting what values your vision will honor. These will form the fabric that will weave throughout your vision. Next, review the qualities you previously recorded that you will enhance and further develop. These qualities will speak to who you are being as you construct your dream life. And lastly, make a list of your passions. These are those things you love to do and would gladly look forward to doing every day for the next 50 years. Your passions make life worthwhile.

Think of this vision as a movie script you will watch play out before you on the silver screen as you take your seat in the theater featuring your life story. Write your vision in first person and present tense as if you are describing a scene from the movie as it happens. Create a vivid mental image with as much detail as possible to bring your vision to life.

Utilize all your senses in describing it - sight, hearing, touch, smell and taste. See your vision as an already accomplished reality in the present, not merely as something you want or hope to have happen. If you construct your vision as something you hope to have, the wanting, desiring and not having of it will manifest instead of the realization of the vision itself.

Include within your vision the answers to the following questions:

Who will you be? What qualities and values will you embody? How will you look and come across to others? What will your self-image be?
What will you do with your life when you possess these qualities and values? How will you spend a typical day at play and a typical day at work?
What will you have as a result of being these qualities and doing the actions consistent with them?
Where will you live? In what type of home and with whom? With what physical possessions will you surround yourself?
What other things such as great friends, abundance, personal freedom, peace of mind, etc. will you have? What goals will you accomplish?
Who will you assist or support with these accomplishments? Are there any special people, organizations or causes that will be an important part of your life?
What will your relationships be like? Picture yourself interacting with friends, family, co-workers and all you meet in a way that reflects your high self-esteem and rich friendships.
You can’t do this exercise wrong, so have fun creating your vision as a magnificent person worthy of the best that life has to offer.

Visions supply the creative energy that speeds the metamorphosis from caterpillar to butterfly. They nourish our ambitions, help clarify our intentions and elevate our self-esteem to the extent that we have the courage to create them, speak them so as to inspire others and believe in their ultimate realization. They serve as the blueprint for the magnificent castle we will build with the granite blocks of our actions and the mortar of our interpretations.

It’s now your turn to create your very own empowering vision. Please do not pass up this opportunity to take advantage of the magic that it can unleash in transforming your life and self-image.

The ultimate value of a vision is that it serves as a motivating place to come from, rather than a place to get to. Visions are also dynamic. As you achieve certain aspects of your vision, it will evolve to include new and previously unforeseen elements. Some aspects of your current vision will also change in time to no longer be part of your evolving vision. For these reasons, visions are always in need of periodic review and reevaluation. They serve to inspire and motivate you and others, not to restrict your options and vitality.

Once you have created your written vision, commit to reading it twice daily without fail, in the morning upon rising and in the evening right before bedtime. As the vision becomes an intention and expectation, your belief in its ultimate realization will support its manifestation into the world.

I so hear you when you talk about time going fast because as soon as i get in church its like its time to go. I so want to hear the words spoken from God threw you that i just don't want to go, and when its time to go I want to shout out "but I just got here" don't worry I want do it. I never thought i would get used to your style of preaching since I'm used to the old down home baptist preaching but none of that matters when you are being feed the bread of life. My grandmother used to use a term called sopping up all the juice with bread. That's how I feel when you are teaching I want to sop up all the words. That just mean you are teaching good stuff and I just want to sop it all up. Keep allowing the Spirit to use you and I will keep coming to feed on the words of life. I want to be brain washed by the Holy Spirit so that I can rid myself of religion and be truly free to love.

I think last weekends GIFT Conference illustrates the importance of "spritual brainwashing". The girls needed to wash out all the barriers that had been built up inside them and replace them with love and the Word. This is what I posted on the church website - feel like more people blog here...

P.Joshua & P.Kasey threw down this weekend at the GIFT Conf! I prayed to be a blessing to others, it turns out I was blessed too. I wish when I was a teen I had heard half the wisdom and love that came from yall this weekend. Your sessions are still marinating within me as I know they are in the girls. I cannot begin to tell you the positive responses I heard from P.J.'s "Forever a Daddy's Girl". I believe you filled in a deep gap in their relationships with God because of less than relationships with their fathers. You tapped into, what I believe, was one of the most universal needs that the girls attending hungered for. It was amazing to see girls who said they felt depressed and unworthy wearing princess crowns. I feel like P.Kasey's "Uniquely You" congealed all that had been poured into the girls over the two days and led into what was an amazing time of worship and ministry at the alter Sat. P.Kasey, the choices of tokens were awesome! In the field of mental health we would call them "transitional objects" which takes the place of, or carries the power of, a mother-child bond. You gave them something to carry & wear that will represent the spiritual mothering that happened this weekend for as long as they need it. One of the girls was literally crying because she thought she had broken her bracelet. Of course it had little to do with the bracelet and much to do with all that the conference meant to her. You two were amazing this weekend and I look forward to GIFT 09!

First view of the brain washed pic this morning prompted this happy, settled thought:

no kidding, the 2nd word ver is: "bringsta"

which "brings me ta" the second thought that followed..."Now, what's next, Father?" And I sensed, "just enjoy this "wholeness" morning after for a season."

This is so cool...as I was listening to Bishop's message entitled "PEACE" from a few weeks back he referred to John 14 and then I kept reading into 15.

I ended up underlining and circling this VERY SAME PASSAGE this morning...You are clean through the word...thank you Holy Spirit and thank you Bishop.

That message on PEACE, serenity and peacefulness of mind I'm still listening to and seeking to tap into it.
It is WASHING me!

Also, last night, there was a part in my dream where the ground was halfway up the house in the backyard, and there was a rain/flood of water and huge mounds of dirt were being WASHED AWAY FROM THE HOUSE...I was a little afraid of the foundation being exposed...that's all I can remember.

Isn't our brain kinda like a house for our spirit?...so I thought it very interesting that today's message was about BRAIN/HOUSE washing!

Can't remember who sings this but;
Even when the rain comes
Even when the floods start risin'
Even when the storm comes
I am WASHED BY THE WATER.

God bless you and your houses today.-Karl

Bishop,

We were unable to be there yesterday due to a sleepover birthday party for our little girl. No one got much sleep, especially us. I knew after Wednesday's message I really needed and wanted to be there Sunday. In reading the earlier post from yesterday and your message as well, I too am in a major peeling process. I've got a whole set of Samsonite baggage that I haven't let go of. I'm too old and set in my ways which really is a struggle at home sometimes. I married someone two years ago who was nearly 11 years my junior with two minor children still at home. To say it has been a challenge is no joke. I never had children and did not live near to my only nephew to see him grow up. To say we are "The Odd Couple" personality wise is a stretch, but not too far. I am the neat freak and the spur under the saddle in our home. We both came from very strict upbringings, but I being older have more of a old school mentality when it comes to kids and discipline. This is where I find it really hard to bend and when I try to participate in the process I am usually overidden. She is a teacher, so she has wonderful patience and insight with children that I sometimes lack.

I am calling on the Holy Spirit to change me. I really feel that more than half of the issues in my home and with our lives is me and my own "brain washing" that I must allow to take place. Much of my rigid thinking is even a problem at work, as I am far too exacting and a harsh critic of myself as well. The stakes are too high spiritually and emotionally to stay in this place.

Please pray for us that we not be forgetful hearers but doers of the Word we've received.

We love you and Pastor Debye and stand behind you 100% as you reach out to Brazil and the Philippines and the uttermost parts of the earth.

Product Testing
TGIF Today God Is First Volume 1 by Os Hillman
Monday, November 17 2008

His master replied, "Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master's happiness!" - Matthew 25:21
Testing allows one to discover how well a product is made when placed under extreme stress. Increasing the pulling pressure between two objects reveals the amount of tension that can be withstood in a chain link. Eventually, the "choking" point occurs. In sports, we ascertain the "choking" point for athletes by putting them into a pressure situation. At what point will the athlete lose concentration and collapse under the pressure? It is under these stressful times that we discover how well we have been trained to withstand the pressure and make right decisions regardless of outside influences.

In my younger days I played sports. I came to observe that we fail under pressure usually because we reach a point where our ability to focus on execution yields to concern about outcome. This worry about outcome forces us to lose our concentration. The fear of failure begins to rule our emotions and actions, which ultimately results in our failure. What we fear has come upon us. It becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy.

In life, we see giving in to pressure in the form of compulsive behavior, withdrawal, anger, abuse, moral failure, and dishonesty, to name just a few manifestations.

Jesus never yielded to pressure. He never made decisions based on outcome. He always made the right decision. He always performed the same no matter what the circumstance. He lived a life based on absolutes, not circumstances. He never gave in to "situational ethics."

As God entrusts us with more and more responsibility, He brings more and more pressures into our lives to "test the product," to make sure that He can give even more responsibility to us. This process helps us see where we are in our maturity and determines our level of future responsibility.

Are you a product that can withstand the product test? Will you perform as the Maker designed no matter what outside pressures come? Know that you cannot perform well unless you are continually in relationship with and obedient to the one who made you. Trust the product developer today. He has made you to perform well under pressure.

Crown, liked the post.

An observation/validation/augment-
ation.

From the text of your post:

"In my younger days I played sports. It becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy."

We often fail because we were never meant to be involved in the first place. So many "square pegs" trying to do the "round peg's" job! This happens in church, on the job, in relationships...everywhere.
In playing sports for example, the kid who is pushed into it by his vicariously living parent reaches this place of total frustration/exhaustion as he tries to "play the role".
Our Heavenly Father's "job", as is a parent's, is to find the niche that their little "square peg" can fit into. Only then do they find fulfilment & the "light burden".
Christ never intends for us to perform, he only asks that we be. And being is gloriously enough!

Blessings,

Larry

I have a semi-praise report.
It appears that my dad did not have a heart attack. Some of the symptoms and complications from the possible pneumonia mimicked heart attack symtoms on some tests that had been ran at the smalltown hospital/microwave oven repair shop where he lives.
But he still needs prayer because coughing up blood is never a positive sign for anything.
As I was visiting him earlier this evening in the ICU room, his dinner was brought to him. He managed to do his customary blessing over his food before he started eating.
Now I'll admit that hospital food will probably never be offered at Emeril's or any other fine dining establishment, but it is what it is and it does have a purpose.
I know that my dad was in a cantankerous mood due to his illness and all the wires and stuff attached to him, but something struck me wrong when he sampled some of the food and made a very negative comment about it.
I started thinking that this food that you just cursed is what you had just asked God to bless only moments earlier.
Later as Her Majesty and I were sitting in a little restaurant eating I mentioned the situation to her. At first I was addressing it from a negative point of view strictly aimed at my dad.
But I realized that I was not allowed to see that event just so I could think bad about my dad, but I saw that because it was intended to be an object lesson for ME.
I started thinking about how many times I had prayed for things to happen, but between the time that I prayed and the time that the prayer was answered, if it ever appeared to be answered, that I had done alot of bi---I mean complaining.
What I was being shown was that I was just as guilty of cursing things that I had asked God to bless as anyone else ever has been.
"Lord, if it be your will that we buy this house, then just let everyhing go in our favor at the bank."
"I am sick and tired of the drafts in this house and this crappy neighborhood and everytime I turn around something is breaking and needs to be fixed!"
Yea, guilty as charged.
I need to be brainwashed some more looks like.

The Word that came from the pulpit yesterday has challenged me to be better in all areas of my life. For years, I have heard all kinds of things and the word in fear. I have never heard the Word taught quite like you teach it and it makes me want to be all that I have the potential to be. It reminded of the Word that you taught 'the word dividing soul & spirit'. And the Word for today "brain Washed" I got it. When you hear brain washed you are incline to think about stories like the jim jones tragedy in Guyana.
But thank you for hearing the voice of God and doing what he alone will have you do.
Thanks for challenging my potential.
